Live Shopping in the Netherlands: What Live District Is Planning and How Cadothy Amaze Is Bringing the Concept to Every Store

Livestream Shopping

When people in Germany talk about live shopping, they often still hear, “That only works in China.” A look across the border tells a different story. In the Netherlands, a team is currently setting up an entire center for livestream sales—right in the middle of a shopping mall.

The project is called Live District. It brings together studios, creators, brands, and customers in one place. We took a look at how the model works. And we’ll show you how you can implement the same idea in your own store today—not with 1,150 square meters of space, but with a single device on the counter: the Cadothy Amaze.

Live District: A Shopping Center for Livestreams

Live District is planning its first location at Stadshart Amstelveen, a large shopping center south of Amsterdam. Thirty streaming studios, each about 30 m² in size, are set to be built across 1,150 m². What makes this special is that the studios are open to the public. Visitors can watch creators showcase products live. They can participate, win prizes, and take advantage of on-site offers. This brings together online reach and a real shopping experience.

How Live Shopping Works for Brands in Amstelveen

The idea behind Live District is simple: The brand provides the products, and Live District provides the studio, the platform, and connections to creators. There are three ways to get started.

  • Creator from the network: Live District selects suitable hosts for its products.
  • In-House Creator: The brand provides its own influencers, brand ambassadors, or hosts.
  • In-store promotion: Live stream plus an in-store product experience, featuring giveaways and special offers at the mall.

What Retailers in Germany Can Learn From This

You don’t have to wait for a live shopping center to open in your city. The basic concept from Amstelveen can be applied to any store. Three points stand out.

The focus is on the product, not the technology. Live District doesn’t promise a Hollywood-style production. A studio with fixed cameras, good lighting, and a monitor is all that’s needed. The important thing is that the product is clearly visible and the host answers questions immediately.

Start small and measure. One product line, one brand image, one goal. If you start out this way, you’ll know what works after just a few streams. This applies just as much to a fashion house as it does to a specialty retailer of kitchen appliances.

Online and in-store go hand in hand. In Amstelveen, viewers at home and visitors on-site are meant to share the same experience. Your business can do exactly that, too: broadcast live from the sales floor while regular customers are in the store. Our customer case study featuring Kaufhaus Stolz shows how this works in practice.

Cadothy Amaze: The Live Shopping Studio for the Counter

What Live District sets up in 30 m² per studio fits into a single device about 30 cm tall with the Cadothy Amaze. The camera, tablet, microphone, speakers, and livestream mixer are all housed in a single unit. You set it up, turn on the light, and go live. The Amaze is designed for the 9:16 portrait orientation—perfect for Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and shopping apps. It also supports the 16:9 landscape orientation. The built-in tablet replaces your smartphone and offers features that really help with sales.

Why Amaze Is a Good Fit for Live Shopping

  • Capture sharp details: Samsung’s 50-megapixel camera with a 1/1.3-inch sensor and autofocus in 30 milliseconds. Fabric textures, labels, and displays are instantly in focus.
  • True-to-life colors: An AI color algorithm ensures that a red dress looks red in the livestream. This helps prevent returns.
  • Clear Sound: Four microphones pick up speech from up to 5 meters away and filter out background noise.
  • Teleprompter: Prices, promo codes, and product details appear as text over the image. Viewers don’t notice a thing.
  • Multistreaming: A stream is broadcast simultaneously on multiple channels.
  • Second camera: Using the HDMI input or a smartphone app, you can add another perspective, such as a close-up.
  • Battery Life: Thanks to the cooling system, continuous operation is possible for up to 72 hours; on battery power, it lasts about 4 hours without being plugged in.

It also features picture-in-picture, virtual backgrounds, stickers, background music, and a Quick Tip Board for pre-recorded overlays. Connectivity is via LAN, Wi-Fi, or SIM card. We have hands-on experience with Amaze and will set it up with you. The workshop is available online or in person in Munich.
